Information

Bell and Milam Counties Texas

Bell County was carved out of Milam County in 1850, just 5 years after Texas entered the Union. Milam was originally created in 1835 as a municipality, replacing the supposed boundaries of the Robinson Colony. Many came and spread from Milam.

I thought I would share a site that I think some Parkers from Texas would enjoy it shares stories and things of that nature, and all you have to do is go to the search bar provided and type in a name, such as Parker. I found some stories about others in my family there. It is a great site, and you could also purchase a magazine with these stories from long ago if interested.

It is called frontier times magazine. It even has things about gatherings for Texas Rangers. I really have enjoyed it.

I think I discovered today that the Willis in my line that I thought moved to Bell County actually died in infantcy and I was getting him mixed up with your Willis. That's not completely confirmed at this point, but it seems to fit so far. More to come later.

It's interesting that your Willis Parker born outside of Texas migrated to Bell County and another Willis Parker who was born in Madisonville, Texas also migrated to Bell County many years after your Willis did. I can't find a connection between the two though. I do have some relatives who are Parkers in Temple and if I find out any additional information, I will let you know.

Can you give dates on any of those names? I know there is a Willis Parker in my line, but he didn't come from Mississippi. I would really like to see any information you have on your Willis.

I am related to some Parkers who grew up just east of Milam County. Three of the names are Jesse, Wiley and Willis Parker. Jesse fought in the War of 1812 and served in the first Texas Legislature. He knew Sam Houston personally. Wiley fought in the War for Texas Independence and also served as a Texas legislator. He also sold Sam Houston the land that Houston made his home and later died on and is buried in the same cemetery as Sam Houston. Willis was about the same age as Cynthia Ann Parker and it is said that he was less than two miles away from Fort Parker when it was raided in 1836. He supported the South in the Civil War and, as a result, lost his entire fortune. He died in Tanglewood (which was in Burleson County in 1902, but is in Lee County today), a small community just south of Rockdale in Milam County. These three men are my ggggg-grandfather, gggg-grandfather and ggg-grandfather respectively.

If you know any more information about these or other Parkers that you would be willing to share, please let me know.

Hi I do have ancestry in Bell that I believe are tied to my Parker ancestors. I was also born in Bell Co but never grew up there. I grew up in Shreveport,LA.I've left comments on Kristi's,Jim's pages if anyone will want to read them. I'm excited and trying to make all the connections I know are related to me. Ralph Regan Parker is my ancestor. I'm told I'm related to the infamous Bonnie Parker. If anyone wants to talk I'll be back on-line tomorrow. Thanks! Heather
