Preservation and Celebration of the Parker Family History & Genealogy

I have run across several Rhoda Parkers, but mine married Barnet Hopkins, who was born and raised in Providence Co., Rhode Island.
They had a daughter Olive Hopkins, who married her first cousin, Asahel(Asiel as my family usually called him)Hopkins, son of Jonah Hopkins, Jr. and Mary Tucker. Barnet and Jonah, Jr. were sons of Jonah. Sr. and Abigail Whitman. These people all were New Englanders.
Olive Hopkins and Asahel Hopkins had a daughter, Charlotte Ann Hopkins, who married Frederick William Burbank. Their son, Timothy Frederick Burbank, married Inez Clevonia Hale in 1893 in Montrose, CO. My mother, Amelia Ann Burbank, married Lloyd Martin Ramey in Pocatello, Bannock, ID 11 Sep 1915. I was one of the younger children and was born 23 Mar. 1926 in Orofino, Clearwater, ID. Mama and Daddy had 9 of us, but only 6 grew to adulthood. I married Edward Lee Seyfried in Norfolk, VA during WWII on 9 Sep 1944. We had 9 children but lost our twins so only raised 7, 4 girls and 3 boys. We lost one of a 2nd set of twins, saving only one of them. We raised those 7 children near Riggins, Idaho, Idaho on the family farm, where my husband had been born and raised. My husband died 20 Sep 1982 of cancer. Does anybody have any connection with my line of the Parker family? In RI or CT? Iris

Sally Curtis: Sorry, but I did not send the records to Lyons Michigan as I should have. I'll try to remember to send them this week. I've been run ragged with correcting mistakes people keep adding to my pedigrees. I'll tell you one goodie if you write to me at my eml: grandmairis1@yahoo.com
Be sure to mention in the subject line that it is Hopkins family. I'm afraid it may be put into spam. I have to check that everytime I open the email section of my computer. Found a few there for some odd reason. Iris

Richard,
Do you know Shawna Prater? She also descends from Nathaniel Parker Hopkins, who was my great grandmother's younger brother. I have the genealogy pages from the Hopkins family bible with all of the children of Asahel and Olive Hopkins listed and their childrens' birthdates, but not their places of birth. We do know they were all born in NY. My great grandmother was the 2nd child, Charlotte Ann Hopkins and born in 1824. Delana was the oldest. Nathaniel was the 3rd child. Only that page will copy in the printer. The other pages must have been done in poor ink or pencil. They won't copy. I have to hand copy in my own writing to show what is on those pages. I'll send what I have to the library in Lyons, Ionia, MI. Iris

Iris,
if you check this out you may find some info of interest on Nathaniel Parker Hopkins whom I am a decendent of. http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?type=simple&rgn=full+text&c=micounty&cc=micounty&idno=bad0938.0001.001&q1=hopkins&submit=Go
You will probably have to cut and paste the web address but when you do go to page 487 at the bottom left to find him.

Well Cousin Sally. welcome to the fold. I'm sure that Shawna will be pleased to meet you. She is descended from Nathaniel Parker Hopkins, brother of my great grandmother, Charlotte Ann Hopkins Burbank. I intend to send a copy of the Hopkins Family Bible pages with the names of Asahel (Asiel) and Olive's children written in bold writing with their birthdates to the Library in Lyons, Michigan. Only one page will copy very well; the other page was written in different ink and too faint to clearly read. It faded over the years, but we hand copied it before the words became too indistinct. I personally have no records. They lived outside of Lyons between Portland and Lyons on the Grand river.... Hopkins Road. Nathaniel was prominent in Ionia County and married a Green. Imfo at Ionia Public and Saranac Public libraries. His brother Barnett Sampson was my ancestor. I have seen the gravesites of Asheil and Olive. Some of the family moved to land purchased by Nathanial outside of Palo to the north on Tasker Rd. There are decsendants still in Lyons, Ionia area.

Do you have any records? I have a copy of the Hopkins family bible with a list of Olive and Asiel's children and birthdates listed. They didn't have room to put in the places, but we know the children all were born in NY. Nathaniel, the 3rd child and 1st boy, was the ancestor of Shawna Prater. Have you met her? Through her, we found out that Nathaniel 's 2nd name was Parker and was named after his grandmother's maiden name. So my sister's records of Olive's parents were wrong. Poor girl scraped everything together to do genealogy and was given incorrect information. Olive's parents were Barnet(t) Hopkins and Rhoda Parker. My sister thought Olive's parents were Oliver Hopkins (Barnet's older brother) and Susanna Bennett, who lived in Cortland Co., NY. We are still trying to trace the Parker family. Stanley Bowen Hopkins claims Rhoda married Barnet in Milford, NH, but it wasn't even a town at the time of their marriage. He has no proof and has tried to connect her up with a NH family. My daughter and two of her girls lived in the Milford area for over a year, and searched town, county, state and historical soc. records. Not a trace of them. Not even in the churches. We tried Milford for the other nearby states and found nothing. All we know for sure is that Barnett was born and raised in Providence Co., RI and was mentioned on his father's will. There were two or three Parker families in the same town as Barnet's people, so I really think she belongs to those Parkers. However, no early census would have her named, because to them, we were just numbers. Only the head of the household was named. Iris
