Preservation and Celebration of the Parker Family History & Genealogy

I've read many of the post & have yet to find any names that are in my search. Hopefully I can add a few remarks that will catch someone's attention. Phillip Parker was born in 1769 in VA, died in 1829 in MO. His children were< JOHN, ROLEN, ELIZABETH. WILLIAM, KATHERINE, MARY, SUSANNAH, HANNAH, HEZEKIAH PHILLIP, JAMES H. AND LUTHER RICE. They were active in the Primitive Baptist Church in Rhea Co, TN. Sometime after the death of his father, HEZEKIAH & FAMILY moved to MO. HEZEKIAH m. MARY ANN SMITH. They had 11 children, MILLY, LUCINDA, HANNAH, ALLEY, PHILLIP, DANIEL, WILLIAMF. JOSIAH C, MARY AND HEZEKIAH jR.

JOSIAH CONN m PARMELIA ANN WARREN. In the early 1890's they  moved to the IT (OKLA) This is my husband line.

I find NATHANIEL PARKER  listed as the father of PHILLIP PARKER of TN. I have a book about the family of HEZEKIAH VICKERS PARKER but at the time it was written they were still looking for his father. but a page from a BIBLE matches the census of Phillip, so I assume it's correct. Can anyone help? Please. And please forgive the typos!

Hello, Phylena - To date, a confirmed father for Elder John Parker (d. 1836Texas) has not been identified.   Despite the many, many researchers who continue to claim Nathaniel Parker bca. 1730 and Ann Clayton as parents of Elder John, you can be assured that they were not.  Elder John's descendants are matched into FG#5. Nathaniel Parker's descendants are matched into FG#18, all of the Parker Surname YDNA Project. They are two totally separate blood lines with different haplos.

The confusion about the Johns is understandable.  Nathaniel did have a son, John Parker b. Virginia, who never left and did not migrate with his father and other adult siblings west into what became Sumner Co. Tennessee.  Nathaniel's son John was married one of the Rogers sisters, and they moved to Gloucester Co. Va. on the coast where he lived out his life.

Nathaniel Parker bca. 1730 also had a grandson, John Parker, who was born in Sumner Co. Tennessee in 1796, I believe.  He became a Methodist minister known as Reverend John Parker.  He married and never left Tennessee.  I can look up their dates if you need them.  Elder John Parker bca. 1754 whose first wife was Sarah "Sally" White was a completely different man.

You are also correct about the many Parker males named Nathaniel.   If you can give me some info on the Nathaniels you are considering as an ancestor of your Phillip, I shall be glad to share what is in my database about some of them and help sort them out, if possible.  Birth, death, marriage, wife, wives, birthplaces, siblings or children's names - any of that would be helpful.

My grandmother said that she had heard thru relatives that a girl had been stolen and that she had an indian baby called quanah parker, but my grandmother thought that their was other indian blood in the family before but she didn't no for sure. She wouldn't get in the sun without being well covered because she did not like getting darker. She never talked much about the past..I didn't even know her mother  fathers names until I started researching.

I was asking about the parents of Phillip Parker, mainly. I had found on Ancestry.com the possibly that it was Nathaniel. But there is more than one Nathaniel, so it's confusing. It also shows that Natahniel was the father of Elder John Parker, but according to reports on this site, it states that he wasn't.?? I know we're talking of two different people.

According to y-dna Nathaniel is not Elder John's father, but who is?There were several Pakers in the same area of TN.

I'm stuck at Phillip Parker.

Hello, Phylena:  Short answer to your question about dna of ancestors:  They can't.

For genealogical purposes, we can use YDNA testing and pair it with family histories to assume that some male is actually the ancestral father or grandfather or great grandfather of a living person.  The assumption is a leap of faith based upon the genetic processes that prove lineages work that way.  Results are pretty clear with YDNA male testing;  results are more complicated with mitochondrial DNA testing of females.

I am comfortable with the notion that YDNA test results  that are matched into family groups confirm family histories and vice versa.  It is imperfect, but more than what we had for hundreds of years before.  Then we only had foxfire and the occasional family Bible.

Is your question in the above post about Nathaniel, Phillip, or Hezekiah V.  or all of them?  What are you looking for?

Are you a member on ancestry.com? You can find some family trees, there. No, my husband hasn't done the ydna, since his Parker comes through his mother. I still don't undestand all I know about dna; just wonder where they obtain the dna from someone who has been dead for 200 years?

I found your grandmother in the book, Ella Marie, b. 1902 in Addington, I.T., m/1 Walter Griffin, m/2 Joe Kyle m/3 Charlie Silvers. She & Walter had 3 children.

Goodness knows there are scads of Parkers! Very confusing to place each with the right family. The book also has pictures of most of the families.

I don't know much, but glad to shar what I have. Have you ever heard any of the family history?

No  I don't have the book, all my info has come from other postings and matches to my line on

myheritage.com.  My family tree name is griffin. I my grandmothers relatives names...Info I got from findagrave and 1900 Federal Census that confirmed Hezekiah Vinson and Maggie leah as my family...My grandma would not get in the sun without long sleeves and a hat, she didn't want to get darker.  Has your husband had the dna test?  Where and what should I do to get more info on Parkers??

Any help appreciated.....Billie

Phylena,

You will find Phillip listed as an 1815 taxpayer in Bledsoe Co. (next to Rhea Co.) here:

http://files.usgwarchives.net/tn/bledsoe/taxlists/1815/1815tax.txt

I'm in contact with some descendents of Hezekiah Parker and will attempt to lure them here.  I am their "DNA cousin", and presumably, your husband's DNA cousin.  We don't know who our MRCA is, but it's at least as far back as Phillip's father, probably further.  Get your husband to join the Parker Family DNA Project at FTDNA (Google is your friend).

We're almost certainly not related to Quanah Parker.
